J.C. Steele & Sons, the largest producer of heavy clay machinery in the United States, needed to remodel some of their existing steel machine parts. The function of the machinery depends on the tight fit between the individual parts.
In order for J.C. Steele to update and remodel their existing machinery, they would need to obtain scan data of 52 individual parts, which range anywhere between 30 to 300 pounds.

J.C. Steele contracted 3DScanCo – division of Laser Design Inc. – to scan all 52 parts, which were shipped to 3DScanCo’s Engineering Service Center. 3DScanCo used a high accuracy 3D Scanner to capture the dimensions and unique stamping identification codes of the parts. 3DScanCo aligned and optimized the scan data, offering ideal scan data for the reverse modeling process.
3DScanCo scanning services provided J.C. Steele with the data they needed to reverse engineer all 52 parts. 3DScanCo’s attention to detail in organizing and handling the vast amount of data ensured that there were no miscommunication between parties. Impressed with the results, J.C. Steele continues to use 3DScanCo’s services and a 13-part job was recently completed with matching top-notch results.
