Minneapolis, MN - The
Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) hosted a series of workshops recently
for area industries to learn about the advanced technology of the Laser
Design FA-10P7 3D Laser Scanning system they recently purchased. Laser
Design’s FA-Series of scanners integrates the company’s SLP laser probes
with the full range of Faro Technologies six and seven-axis Platinum,
Titanium and Advantage portable CMM arms.
The SRC, a Treasury Board
Crown Corporation, has been in business for more than 55 years. Its mission
is to help the people of Saskatchewan strengthen the economy through
research, development, and the transfer of innovative scientific and
technological solutions, applications, and services. Because of its
commitment to providing cutting edge technologies to the businesses of
Saskatchewan, the SRC bought the Laser Design 3D Laser Scanner and held
seminars for business leaders on its uses. Over 45 people came from diverse
industries to see how the technology could advance their businesses by
lowering costs and saving time, increasing competitiveness in time-to-market
situations. Geomagic, Laser Design’s software partner, also participated in
the information and training sessions. |

“The Laser Design FA-10P7 system fits beautifully with the goal to help
Saskatchewan industry be globally competitive through the responsible
application of science and technology,” said C. Martin Schuster,
President of Laser Design. The system increases the SRC’s ability to
apply engineering expertise to the design and prototyping of products in
plastics, metal, construction materials, and electronics. The portable
system, allows technicians to go to the customer site to provide all
types of 3D scanning services.
The SRC has used already the system for
diverse projects, which highlights the versatility of the Laser Design
FA-Series scanners. The Council expects their scanning business to
increase in the automotive, mining, and manufacturing industries as a
result of the workshops and demonstrations. The larger goal, however is
to expose these industries to the technology, so they can develop their
own applications for the Laser Design scanning system to advance their
processes and efficiencies.
Laser Design, Inc. has been the
leading supplier of ultra-precise, 3D laser scanning systems and
services since 1987. Used for capturing the 3D shape of objects with
complex geometries and free-form surfaces, Laser Design’s Surveyor line
of automated and portable scanning systems are ideal for 3D scanning
applications involving inspection and reverse engineering of complex
shaped plastic and metal parts. The company’s patented laser line-probe
technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data
substantially faster and more accurately than conventional metrology
technologies. Laser Design also operates
GKS Inspection Services (www.gks3d.com),
an in-house service division offering complete 3D scanning, modeling,
and dimensional measurement services. Headquartered in Minneapolis, the
company also has an R&D lab in Seattle, a regional office in Detroit,
and distributors throughout Europe and Asia. Laser Design integrates
Geomagic software with its laser scanners to provide complete solutions
for reverse engineering and inspection applications.
