Laser Design Introduces 3D Scanning Systems for Japanese Market

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Laser Design Inc. announced that its exclusive Japanese distributor has partnered with a premier Japanese machine-builder to introduce a new line of scanning systems for sale in Japan. The company’s Japanese distributor is Tomen Machinery Co. Ltd., a large reseller of machining and metrology equipment. The machine builder partner is Yasda Precision Tools K.K., a world-class manufacturer of machine tools known for the outstanding accuracy and reliability of their products.

The first model in the YS-Series line is the YS-6075; a machine offering x-y travels of 600 mm x 700 mm. Included with the YS-6075 is a choice of RPS laser probes, high-end PC, and Surveyor Scan Control software. It features a granite base, full DCC control system, precision ground ways, .5 micron scales and precision pinch-roller feed.

“We expect that the YS-6075 system will significantly increase our sales in Japan starting in 2002 and beyond.” according to Marty Schuster, Laser Design’s CEO. He continued, “This system is attractive to many Japanese companies because the machine base is built, installed and supported locally. Its high level of accuracy will ensure our success in Quality Control applications in Japan.”

Since 1987, Laser Design Inc. has been the leading supplier of ultra-precise, laser scanning systems and services used for capturing the 3D shape of objects with complex shapes and free-form surfaces. Laser Design’s Surveyor line of automated 4 and 5-axis scanning systems are ideal for 3D applications such as computer-aided verification, discrete dimensional measurements, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing from scan data. The company’s patented laser line-probe technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data substantially faster and more accurately than conventional metrology technologies. The 16-year-old company also operates an in-house Service Bureau offering complete 3D scanning, modeling and inspection services.
