MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Laser Design Inc. announced availability
of the latest release of Geomagic Studio for use with its 3D scanning
systems.
The new Geomagic Studio 4.1 further enhances the process of rapidly
turning a physical part into an accurate 3D digital model.
The functionality of Geomagic Studio is also improved in the
upgrade, which speeds processing of large, ordered data files for scan
registration.
Geomagic Studio 4.1 now supports file types that create and store
point data in a grid-ordered format, known as ordered data.
This is similar to the way a photograph produces an ordered grid of
2D pixels. Preliminary tests indicate that Geomagic Studio 4.1 speeds
processing of large ordered data by a factor of 10.

Marty
Schuster, president of Laser Design Inc. said, “Geomagic Studio is the only
single software package that provides a complete solution for 3D
photography and we are excited to offer our customers this software as an
option with our 3D laser scanning
systems.” The new Geomagic
Studio software
also includes functions for improving performance and memory efficiency
when working with ordered scan data. |

The
new functions include direct import of data from various formats; ability to directly
handle ordered data from scanners; a new uniform-sampling technique for
ordered data; flexibility to maintain order for key functions or to break
order for certain operations; and ability to take advantage of ordered
data for shade points, manual registration, global registration and merge
operations. A new command in Geomagic Studio 4.1 also removes the shaded
color view from point clouds, enabling users to conserve memory when
working with very large data sets.
"This
release gives Geomagic Studio the lead in handling large scanned data in
either ordered or unordered format," says Ping Fu, president and CEO
of Geomagic. "It furthers the speed, reliability and automation that
users have come to expect from Geomagic products."
Geomagic Studio 4.1 is available immediately to Laser Design
customers. Existing Geomagic
Studio 4.0 customers can download a 4.1 patch that does not require
installing the entire application. Geomagic (www.geomagic.com)
provides 3D photography solutions for digital manufacturing, mass
customization and quality assurance.
Since
1987, Laser Design Inc. has been the leading supplier of ultra-precise,
laser scanning systems and services used for capturing the 3D shape of
objects with complex shapes and free-form surfaces.
Laser Design’s Surveyor line of automated 4 and 5-axis scanning
systems are ideal for 3D applications such as computer-aided verification,
discrete dimensional measurements, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping,
and manufacturing from scan data. The
company’s patented laser line-probe technology dramatically reduces
scanning time by collecting data substantially faster and more accurately
than conventional metrology technologies.
The 16-year-old company also operates an in-house Service Bureau
offering complete 3D scanning, modeling and inspection services.
