LASER DESIGN INTRODUCES UNIVERSAL CMM LASER KIT

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Laser Design Inc. announced the immediate availability of its patented 3D laser scanning technology as a cost-competitive kit for installed CMMs in the field.  The company credited its recently announced innovations such as Dynamic Scanning and Surveyor Scan Control as laying the groundwork for its  universal CMM technology.

Since most CMMs allow access to the system encoders, Laser Design can interface its Dynamic Scanning technology to the CMM and access the CMM positioning information through a separate PC featuring premium computing power to run 3D scanning and data processing software.  With its Universal CMM Retrofit, motion control is handled through the CMM’s existing motion control system.  Scan data is captured on the Laser Design PC running Surveyor Scan Control software.  In many cases, the operator simply scans the part by moving the laser over the part using the existing CMM joystick.

Laser Design has also adapted its rotary stage and popular automated scanning solution to the CMM market and makes these items available as options.  According to Marty Schuster, CEO of Laser Design, “We now have a cost-effective CMM laser kit and can target thousands of CMM owners around the world with our unique technology.  Our goal is to attain the #1 position in market share for laser scanning probes added to CMMs.”

Since 1987, Laser Design Inc. has been the leading supplier of ultra-precise, laser scanning systems and services used for capturing the 3D shape of objects with complex shapes and free-form surfaces.   Laser Design’s Surveyor automated 4 and 5-axis scanning systems are ideal for 3D applications such as computer-aided verification, discrete dimensional measurements, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing from scan data.  The company’s patented laser line-probe technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data substantially faster and more accurately than conventional metrology technologies.  The 16-year-old company also operates an in-house Service Bureau offering complete 3D scanning, modeling and inspection services.  For further information, contact Marty Schuster, by phone (952-884-9648, ext. 202), fax (952-884-9653), or email to sales@laserdesign.com.
