LASER DESIGN INTRODUCES NEW 3D SCANNING SOFTWARE

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Laser Design Inc. announced the availability of new 3D scanning software.  The software, named Surveyor Scan Control (SSC), controls up to 5 axes of motion and includes sophisticated capabilities for capturing 3D laser scan data.  SSC is integrated with the company’s line of RPS laser line probes as well as its entire range of Surveyor digitizing machines.  The new software is used to retrofit the company’s technology to CMMs and for manual scanning applications.

With the power to handle massive point cloud files, SSC aims to become the industry standard for capturing laser scan data.  The software is designed using the latest Microsoft development tools and is multi-threaded to take advantage of powerful PCs with multiple CPUs.  The user interface is graphical and was designed specifically for ease of use and for international customization using other languages.  The built-in Help screens are excellent and friendly Wizards guide the user through tasks such as laser alignment and scan path planning.  A macro capability enables users to record frequently used scan paths and play them back automatically.

Laser Design said that SSC was compatible with the Windows 95, 98, ME, NT and 2000 operating systems.  The company plans to support Windows XP in the future.   Other features include Scan Data Filtering, redundant data elimination, and Optical Noise tolerance filters.

Laser Design Inc. is the leading manufacturer of ultra-precise, laser scanning solutions used for capturing the 3D shape of any object with a complex geometry.   When combined with post-processing software from its Solutions Partners, LDI’s Surveyor scanning systems are ideal for 3D applications such as computer aided verification, discrete dimensional measurements, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing.  The company’s patented laser line-sensor technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data substantially faster and more accurately than is possible with conventional measuring technologies.  The 15-year-old company is also the worldwide leader in automated 4 and 5 axis scanning systems that minimize operator involvement.  For further information, contact Marty Schuster, at Laser Design by phone (952-884-9648, ext. 202), fax (952-884-9653) or via email to sales@laserdesign.com
