LASER DESIGN INTRODUCES DYNAMIC SCANNING CAPABILITY

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Laser Design Inc. announced the immediate availability of  a new Dynamic Scanning capability on its 3D laser scanning systems.  Using this breakthrough approach, LDI can capture 3D surface data information at 14,400 points per second, an increase of 400% or more from its previous rate.

In Dynamic Scanning mode, LDI’s software directly reads the encoder positioning data thus eliminating the need to query the system’s motion controller for this information.  By reading the encoders directly, the system is not dependent on the comparatively slower method of obtaining positioning feedback from the motion controller.  The Dynamic Scanning capability requires a special PCI interface board that is installed in the PC and a proprietary signal routing board that features a personality module for each type of system

According to Marty Schuster, President of Laser Design, “Dynamic Scanning gives us an important performance edge over our competitors.  We are especially pleased that this new capability can be easily added to our installed base of systems in the field.”  Schuster also noted that the Dynamic Scanning capability would enable the company to adapt its technology more easily to existing systems such as CMMs (Coordinate Measurement Machines) and machine tools.

Laser Design Inc. is the leading manufacturer of ultra-precise, laser scanning solutions used for capturing the 3D shape of any object with a complex geometry.   When combined with post-processing software from its Solutions Partners, LDI’s Surveyor scanning systems are ideal for 3D applications such as computer aided verification, discrete dimensional measurements, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing.  The company’s patented laser line-sensor technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data substantially faster and more accurately than is possible with conventional measuring technologies.  The 15-year-old company is also the worldwide leader in automated 4 and 5 axis scanning systems that minimize operator involvement.  For further information, contact Marty Schuster, at Laser Design by phone (952-884-9648, ext. 202), fax (952-884-9653) or via email to sales@laserdesign.com.
