MINNEAPOLIS, MN, - Laser Design Inc. announced
the
availability of is next generation line of 3D laser scanning probes.
Featuring an all-new design, the Surveyor Laser Probes (SLP) offer greater
performance and flexibility than other laser scanning probes. The SLP
probes are available in a variety of laser line lengths with varying
accuracy levels.

The new, lightweight
probes capture up to 144,000 points per second making them an excellent
choice for high-accuracy, high-speed, non-contact 3D scanning. Dual CMOS
receptors featuring simultaneous scanning are standard to assist with
steep sidewall and recessed geometry capture.
This allows for a reduced number of
scanning passes since a dual-receptor design captures much more part
geometry per pass than single receptor laser probes. The SLP probes offer
faster scanning with more geometry captured from any one pass.

According to C.
Martin Schuster, Laser Design President, “The new SLP laser probes are
fully integrated with our Surveyor 3D scanning systems and Surveyor Scan
Control software. And since they weigh less than a pound, we have also
interfaced them with the new, 7-axes Faro and Romer portable CMMs. Most
traditional CMMs are also supported along with the Renishaw PH10 indexing
system.”
Schuster further noted that the new SLP Probes can
be used interchangeably with portable CMMs, traditional CMM’s and Laser
Design’s own SURVEYOR DS, DT and TS Series 3D Laser Scanning Systems that
provide highly automated, programmable scanning of parts or objects. This
interchangeability allows greater flexibility for our customers to
accommodate a wide range of applications with smaller investments in
equipment."
The first SLP probe
models to be released were the SLP-330 (33mm laser line) and the SLP-2000
(200mm laser line) models. Laser Design plans to release additional
models in the near future. “SLP laser probes interface to PCs using a
standard USB connection,” said Robert Thoreson, VP of Engineering at Laser
Design as he emphasized the flexibility of the company’s design. He
continued, “They are as easy to install as any PC peripheral. And with
the ability to scan everything from small, highly detailed parts all the
way up to large automotive and aerospace parts, we feel SLP probes are the
industry’s best answer for precise laser scanning.”
Since 1987, Laser
Design Inc. has been the leading supplier of ultra-precise, 3D laser
scanning systems and services used for capturing the 3D shape of objects
with complex geometries and free-form surfaces. Laser Design’s Surveyor
line of automated and portable scanning systems are ideal for 3D
applications such as computer-aided verification, discrete dimensional
measurements, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing
from scan data. The company’s patented laser line-probe technology
dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data substantially faster
and more accurately than conventional metrology technologies. The company
also operates an in-house Service Bureau offering complete 3D scanning,
modeling and inspection services. For further information, contact Marty
