Software Publishing Certificate Ensures Safety of Laser Design Scan Control Software Running Windows Vista

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Laser Design Inc., the leading supplier of 3D laser scanners since 1987, announced that its Surveyor Scan Control (SSC) software package now includes a “Software Publishing Certificate” for the Vista 64 operating system.  Vista 64 is the first operating system from Microsoft requiring a certificate, or digital signature, for device drivers such as the ones that runs Laser Design’s SSC software on its DS-Series and WS-Series systems with the SLP probes. Digital signatures allow administrators and end users who install Windows-based software to know whether a legitimate publisher provided the software package. This means that users can be sure that the software is from a reputable company such as Laser Design and is safe and stable to run on their Vista systems.

In keeping up with the most advanced technologies and software, Laser Design developed the new SSC software with the Vista operating system in mind.  An enormous benefit to Vista users is its ability to work with very large files such as those created in laser scanning an object. The operating system combined with the SLP probes and the improved SSC reduce both time and effort in creating a 3D point cloud.  As the SLP laser probe projects a line of laser light onto a part, cameras continuously triangulate the changing distance and profile of the laser line as it sweeps along. The system measures fine details and captures complex freeform geometry so that the object can be exactly replicated and inspected. Laser line scanners quickly measure articles, picking up tens of thousands of points per second, and generating huge numbers of data points without the need for templates or fixtures.

When installing the SSC, the Software Publishing Certificate opens and displays: “This software comes from Laser Design.  Do you want to trust it?,” indicating that the package is recognized as safe by Microsoft and its certificate suppliers.  In essence the digital signatures assures both consumer and enterprise users of the Vista OS worldwide that Laser Design’s SSC is vetted and approved so users don’t have to be concerned about the security of their personal and corporate data on the system.  In the future the Certificate will enable customers to use the most advanced next-generation premium content.

Laser Design, Inc., has been the leading supplier of ultra-precise, 3D laser scanning systems and services since 1987.  Used for capturing the 3D shape of objects with complex geometries and free-form surfaces, Laser Design’s Surveyor line of automated and portable scanning systems are ideal for 3D scanning applications involving inspection and reverse engineering of complex shaped plastic and metal parts.  The company’s patented laser line-probe technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data substantially faster and more accurately than conventional metrology technologies.  Laser Design integrates Geomagic software with its laser scanners to provide complete solutions for reverse engineering and inspection applications.

Headquartered in Minneapolis, the company also has an R&D lab in Seattle, a regional sales and support office in Detroit, and distributors throughout Europe, Asia, and Mexico.  Laser Design also operates GKS Inspection Services (www.GKS.com) , an in-house service bureau division offering complete 3D scanning, reverse engineering, and dimensional inspection services.
