Design Expands Inspection Services and Opens New Detroit Office Through Acquisition of GKS Inspection

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - Laser Design Inc. has
announced the expansion of its dimensional inspection and reverse-engineering
services business through the acquisition of GKS Inspection Services, Plymouth,
Michigan. With 24+ years in business and over 145 combined man-years of
experience, GKS has established itself as an industry leader in the field of
metrology. “The acquisition of GKS provides an enormous opportunity to increase
the footprint of our already rapidly growing services business,” said C. Martin
Schuster, President/CEO of Laser Design.
“We're excited about expanding our capabilities and services,”
said Steve DeRemer, General Manger of GKS. “The acquisition has
been instrumental in our recent move from Livonia, MI to a new facility
in Plymouth, MI.” GKS offers both laser scanning and contact scanning for
physical inspection and reverse engineering. GKS can process the point clouds
generated by the scans to produce part-to-CAD model comparisons, exit scans,
polygonal meshes, composite blends and surface parametric solids CAD Models.
The company specializes in Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Process
Capability Studies, Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility, Impartial Evaluation
and Dimensional Calibration & Certification. |

GKS
utilizes the latest 3D and 2D digitizing and software
technology available, including three Laser Design laser
scanning systems, several coordinate measuring machines
(Bridge and Horizontal Arm CMMs), and many different optical
and video based systems. Software used by GKS includes
Geomagic, Solidworks, Imageware's Surfacer, Metrolog, PC-DMIS,
Virtual DMIS, Galaxy and Laser Design's Surveyor Scan Control.
GKS Inspection Service's calibration systems meet or exceed
all current United States government and industry standards,
including ANSI, SAE, and ISO quality assurance standards. The
company is accredited by the American Association for
Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) under the guidelines of ISO/IEC
17025 for competence of calibration and testing laboratories.
GKS is the first and only organization to date to be
accredited in dimensional inspection using Laser Scanning
Systems, in-house and on-site.
