FARO Technologies, the world’s single source for a complete line of portable
CMM measurement solutions, spent two decades developing their Platinum
FaroArm, which improves ergonomics, accuracy and true portability. Laser
Design’s Surveyor Laser Probes (SLP) are integrated with not only the
Platinum FaroArms but also the Titanium model.
“Our FA-Series portable scanning systems are a great complement to our high
accuracy, highly automated Surveyor DS-Series scanning systems,” said C.
Martin Schuster, President and CEO of Laser Design. Schuster added that his
company’s laser probes, including the SLP-2000 which features an 8” long
laser line, are also available as a low cost, add-on kit for existing owners
of the supported FaroArm models. He also noted that Laser Design’s service
bureau, GKS Inspection Services, has several FA-Series scanners available
for customers requiring contracted on-site 3-D laser scanning services
anywhere in North America.
The FaroArm’s “reach” range of 4-12 feet adds functionality to Laser
Design’s scanning probes by allowing users to transport the portable scanner
right to the part. This is a significant benefit for companies that prefer
keeping parts in house for confidentiality purposes as well as for companies
whose parts are too large or too difficult to move, such as those in the
automotive and aerospace industries. Coupling the FaroArm with the accurate
scanning technology of the Laser Design SLP laser probe creates an amazingly
versatile and time-saving laser measurement and reverse-engineering
solution.
Laser Design’s SLP-330, SLP-450, and SLP-2000 laser probes offer varying
laser lengths to facilitate scanning of small to large parts with any of the
supported FaroArms. Laser Design even sells a retrofit kit which allows
existing FARO customers to easily mount the laser probe that fits their
measurement requirements.
Laser Design, Inc. has been a leading supplier of ultra-precise, 3-D laser
scanning systems and services since 1987. Used for capturing the 3-D shape
of objects with complex geometries and free-form surfaces, Laser Design’s
Surveyor line of automated and portable scanning systems are ideal for 3-D
scanning applications involving inspection and reverse engineering of
complex shaped plastic and metal parts. The company’s patented laser
line-probe technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data
substantially faster and more accurately than conventional metrology
technologies.
Laser Design additionally
operates GKS Inspection Services (www.gks3-D.com),
an in-house service division offering complete 3-D scanning, modeling, and
dimensional measurement services. Headquartered in Minneapolis, the company
also has an R&D lab in Seattle, a regional office in Detroit, and
distributors throughout Europe and Asia. Laser Design integrates Geomagic
software with its laser scanners to provide complete solutions for reverse
engineering and inspection applications.
